Memorial day in Logan

»  olya    28 May 2006 @ 23:02

Elijah’s first trip to Logan was, miraculously, a good one. Although he is usually very fussy in the car, he slept much of the way. What a relief. If we are in Church or the store, or out for a walk and he gets upset, there is usually something we can do to help him calm down: bouncing, swinging, swaying, or leaving. ;)

But in the car, we are stuck. If he doesn’t like it, he lets us know and we all suffer. So we were, to say the least, ecstatic to have a relatively uneventful drive.

Maya having fun with Boca’s family

»  olya    22 May 2006 @ 22:32

Who’s Boca? Just the most famous cat on the block and our next door neighbor. Almost every time we go out the door, Maya wants to run over and check on him. Which is a little strange, because it isn’t Boca that sits still and lets Maya pet him, but the older and wiser Stretch. Still, I think Maya and Boca are kindred spirits: both love to roam the neighborhood, both don’t sit still when you want them to, both have a mind of their own.

Once in a while, Maya lets on that she enjoys visiting Boca’s folks: Clint and Erin. Especially when they equip her with instant war paint. Olya was on the scene with her camera to capture the evidence.

Just “cute” :)

Elijah’s Blessing day

Our little Elijah blessing

»  mark    21 May 2006 @ 21:56

Today was a very memorable Sunday: the much anticipated day of Elijah’s baby blessing. This morning when I woke up, I had the opportunity to sit in the front room with Elijah (since he still gets up early) and just ponder and meditate a little about what might become of him in this life and what might be appropriate to say in his blessing. So many things came to mind that I wasn’t too worried about what I would say when the time came.

But of course when the time arrived, anything I had thought out to say beforehand fled my mind. Yet, I wasn’t abandoned, as thoughts came back and I was able to give the blessing just fine. Elijah did not fuss at all, and the congregation got a good chuckle at his wild hairdo when I held him up at the end.

It was especially nice to have all of my family in attendance, as well as my Grandma Braegger who doesn’t get out hardly at all anymore. I think she was inspired by the other older folks in our ward, including 100-year old Lilie Holland who comes every week without fail. We were also treated to have our neighbors Clint and Erin with us and the doula who attended Elijah’s birth, Claire, and her husband. Photos, as usual, forthcoming!
