A check-up for two

»  mark    24 May 2007 @ 22:04

Our kids are growing fast. We went to the pediatrician today for Maya’s 3-year checkup and Elijah’s 1-year. They are both doing well. Elijah continues to be in the low percentiles for weight, though he is now up to 25%. Part of that weight gain must be in his head (literally) because its circumference measures at around the 80th percentile for children his age. He’s kind of a Calvin-shaped kid, while Maya more and more resembles Hobbes: long and lean. :)

But the best signs that they are growing are found in the way they act. Maya has recently begun greeting everyone she meets: “I’m Maya!” The clerks in the grocery store love it. She just begs for attention, then once it is given, she proceeds to tell them all about what she has done for the day…watched Toy Story, Elijah fell down, rode my bike-a-bike, ate yogurt.

Both kids were up for immunizations today and surprisingly neither of them cried. I guess Maya was so excited to get a sucker from the doctor and Elijah didn’t know what was going on. It went so fast they didn’t even realize it was over.

Nonetheless, since the kids had been good sports and we figured they might not be feeling so well later, we decided to treat them to lunch. “So Maya, what do you want for lunch?” I asked, fully willing to take her to a steakhouse if she asked for it. After some thought, she replied “An eggy.”

Olya and I chuckled then asked her to think of something else. “Ummm….toast?”

“Maya, you understand we are going to have lunch at a restaurant, right? You can have whatever you want….”

“Ummm… peanut butter?”

So I made an executive decision and we went to an eclectic little cafe a few miles from our house called “Greenhouse Effect.” We ordered two big crepes with tomatoes, cheese, chicken, and pesto. Nobody complained.

Hiking to the Delicate Arch

And just to think we almost didn’t make it there because Elijah decided to throw a fit as soon as we got out of the car… Good thing Dedushka was patient, took our screaming baby and went ahead of us ;) When we cought up with him 20 minutes later, Elijah was doing pretty well and he was happy as a clam for the rest of the hike!

Site Design Update

As if you didn’t notice…we’ve made a few changes to the site. Kudos to Olya on the color scheme. All I did was code it. Check out the new look in our photo albums too. Feedback, suggestions, bugs, etc. are all appreciated.

On the way to Green River

We’re back and you can only imagine how many photos we took over the weekend! I’ll be adding them slowly as I edit them, so here’s the first part, our road to Green River, UT (yes, we stopped at a museum on our way ;)
